I was looking for some good fantasy on bookshare a few months ago when I stumbled upon a collection of short stories that had to do with the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey. After reading them I was completely hooked and am now on my way to finishing the series itself. I love becoming completely absorbed in magical worlds and Mercedes Lackey does a great job of bringing characters and places to life. Has anyone else read anything by her and if so, how'd you like it?
She's one of my favorite authors. In adition to the valdimor type stories, she also writes some good urban fantasy.
I read a good series by her about Mages. Not sure how to spell that, but the books were good and I'd like to read more by her. I know she's written some things with Ann McCaffrey, but haven't read those yet either.
The only thing I know about that she wrote with Anne MCCaffrey was The Ship Who Searched, one of the books in the Brainship series. She did a pretty good job of it too, better than Margaret Ball did in the same series anyway. As for the series you were referring to, it could be the Last Herald-Mage trilogy, which is a part of the Valdemar series. (for some reason she likes dividing everything into trilogies or even the ocasional duology) There were also the Mage Winds and Mage Storms trilogies. I'm in the middle of the second one now.
